Life – Calming Shimmering LightPosted by kairospix (Singapore, Singapore) on 27 May 2007 in Abstract & Conceptual and Portfolio. Thanks to all who came by and visited my photoblog over he week. Appreciate your thoughts, comments and kind words of encouragement! I will try to reply your inputs as soon as I can, so do have a look later when you have the time and if you like. :) This shot was taken under the flyovers of the Singapore River near the Merlion Park. Merlion is a combination of two words – mermaid and lion. Why Mermaid? Well, mermaid has something to do with the sea and so it was chosen to symbolize that Singapore is one of the world’s busiest seaport. Why lion? Because the name Singapore means “Lion City”. Why “Lion City”? Well, long, long time ago, in a far, far, away island, a Prince was out hunting when he saw an animal that looked like a lion and so he named the island “Singapura” where “singa” means “lion” and “pura” means “city”. If you are interested to find out more you can visit this site or this site. I find this shot calming. Sometimes just by looking at the light shimmering on the water somehow calms you. It’s like the flickering light bouncing off the water somehow mesmerize you and take you away, for a moment, from all the stresses in life. But for the light to be seen, you need an opening, just like this shot here. Without that parting between the two flyovers, that shaft of light would not be shimmering on the water below. I guess in life too we need to stay open. Have an open mind. Then we’ll have in our minds that calming shimmering light. Have a great Sunday break! Camera - Canon Powershot G6
