Life – Little Water Guide

This is a shot of the little rudder of a bumboat called “tongkangs” in Malay and “twakows” in a mixture of two Chinese dialect Teochew and Hokkien. You can read more about these bumboats at Infopedia, National Library of Singapore.

It’s amazing how such a small piece of wood or metal (if you are talking about big boats and ships) can steer and guide a much bigger boat or ship. With it, the boat or ship can be guided through the waters directing where it should go.

It is interesting that an ancient Middle Eastern man once said this…

Likewise, look at the ships: though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the helmsman determines. Even so the tongue is a little member, and it can boast of great things. See how much wood or how great a forest a tiny spark can set ablaze! And the tongue is a fire...

I guess in our lives we do need to watch our “little rudder” less we end up saying things we shouldn’t be saying causing much unnecessary “fire” in our lives and other people’s lives.

Let us be careful with our “little rudder”.
