Life – Open To The Waters

On yesterday’s shot of a fenced resting place of a boardwalk along Macritchie Reservoir in Singapore, I reflected on the importance of having fences to protect ourselves.

Today I thought I would post this shot where there is no fencing and the resting place is open to the waters unhindered.

In life as much as there is a need to protect ourselves we also need to be careful not to go to the extreme of fencing out everything and go into extreme isolation.

That would be so sad as there is so much out there in life to explore, experience and achieve.

If Dick Fosbury didn’t decide to venture out into the open and explored on doing a high jump differently by having his back facing the pole as he jumped he wouldn’t have achieved the world record of 7ft 4¼in for the 1968 Mexico Olympics and experienced the elation of beating the last world record of 5ft 8in. That’s a good 1.5ft higher! So the Fosbury flop, as it is called today, is in Paul Arden’s words really a turning of a “flop into a success” (2006 ~ Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite).

So holding back completely out of fear of failure or of making bad decisions may keep you clinically safe and sure. You will always get the same results but you will not soar and your life will not grow. It will stagnate and may even shrivel.

Then life will just be a be-gone but will never be a be-come. Be but not be-ing.

Sometimes it’s good to be open to the waters.
