Yesterday I posted a shot of the sun rising over the waters of the small lake in Punggol Park in Singapore.
Here’s another shot of the sunrise from a different part along the small lake where you can see all these long blades of leaves standing tall over the waters, growing out of the lake, interspersed with these interesting sausage-like pods sticking up like skewered hot-dogs. :)
Although I’ve seen these plants before but unfortunately I don’t really know what they are called. Can anyone help?
But looking at these blades of leaves and pods standing straight up, tall and upright reminds me of the following words…
When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.
When we are faced with difficult times in our lives there is a great temptation to give up and maybe even to compromise values that you know are right but don’t give in. Stand firm. Don’t topple to the forces of the storm. Why? Perhaps the words of Jesus will give us an idea…
By standing firm you will gain life.

this one made me gasp .. the combination of the yellow and violet is impressive and the starkness of the silhouette is amazing. an inspiration to someone like me who spends alot of time shooting "through" the grass.

Reed only bends, and doesn't break in the storm, beautiful metaphor! It tells me also that one shouldn't be stubborn and harsh against powers beyond control. In our country we know this plant, too, as children we called them "cigars"; they are protected and not allowed to be picked (to take home to put in a vase e.g.), but I don't know the official name either.
