Life – No To No Fishing In The WaterPosted by kairospix (Singapore, Singapore) on 17 August 2007 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. Yesterday I posted shot of a “No Swimming” sign in the water of the small lake at Punggol Park. Today, the shot shows a “No Fishing” sign. But the twist in this shot is that two leaves of the cat-tail plant crossed each other over the reflection of the sign as if to say, “No to no fishing in the water” and even the reflection of the sign is torn in two! While I didn’t see any one breaking the “No Swimming” sign, there were a few people casting fishing lines into the water to fish so I guess the shot reflects the reality of the “No Fishing” sign – it didn’t stop people from fishing. So why did one sign stop people but not the other? Some may say that maybe it was simply coincidental that no one was in the mood for swimming that day. Maybe. My gut feeling is that breaking the “No Swimming” order is probably seen as more dangerous than breaking the “No Fishing” order. After all if one was to swim in deep waters with no lifeguard around and got into flotation trouble, one is likely to lose one’s life! But, hey, if one was to fish, it should be quite safe and the only one to lose life would just be the fish, right? Sounds logical. So should we then follow all orders as given? Putting it in another way – should the law be for the people or should the people be for the law? Or maybe we should adhere to that one universal law that binds all laws - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." What do you think? Camera - Canon Powershot G6
