Life – Discoveries In The Water III

Posted by kairospix (Singapore, Singapore) on 24 August 2007 in Abstract & Conceptual and Portfolio.

This is the third of the discoveries in the water of the small lake at Punggol Park.

I had originally post-processed this shot to have a desaturated look which turned out not too bad. But the problem was the rust on the rim of a wheel all turned out looking like dull pale looking mud.

So I’ve decided to use saturated colours to really bring out the rust on the rim.

As I look at this much rusted rim it reminds me of how important it is not to allow our lives to rust as we grow old. True our bodies will not be as agile, flexible and wrinkle-free as before but we should not let our thinking grow old with rust. We need to keep our minds turning otherwise like this motionless rim, it will soon become rusty.

My mother use to say to me in Chinese that since we all eat till we are old, we also ought to learn till we are old. Reading, studying, thinking, playing chess or bridge, all these can help to strengthen the mind and keep it alive!

Recently during a National Day Rally speech by Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, he talked about Singapore’s aging population and mentioned about Sister Teresa Hsu. She, like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, is very much involved in charitable work of helping the less fortunate in Singapore. She is currently only 110 years young!

I guess in a way helping others actively can keep you mighty alive even past a 100 years old!

So keep that rim turning!
