Life – Morning Stroll By The Waters

This is a shot of boy strolling along the small lake at Punngol Park that morning I was there taking shots more than a month ago.
I like this shot as it gives one the feeling of tranquillity and peacefulness. He looks as if he is in deep thought. Where is he going? What is he carrying in his haversack? What was he doing before strolling off? So many questions were invoked when I see this picture.
Life can be so full of questions isn’t it? And sometimes you wonder where these questions might lead you. You never know what “treasures” you might discover.
Why “treasures” and not a more neutral word like “encounters”? Well even if the encounters you come across may not be pleasant ones, they can still be treated as “treasures” if you let those encounters be learning experiences to help you grow to be a stronger and better person.
It is natural that we can get upset, disappointed, angry, frustrated or even depressed by negative encounters in our lives. But without trivialising these unpleasant life experiences, I can’t help but recall this quote by the ancient Roman philosopher Epictetus,
“People are not disturbed by things, but by the view they take of them.”
So how we view life’s encounters can either make us remain miserable or it can actually build us up and even free us. If we choose to view unpleasant events as stepping stones and to look for the hidden blessings in disguise with which we can grow from, then even negative life experiences can be “treasures”.
May you find many hidden “treasures” in life ahead!
