This is a shot of Raven Arrow on water. Raven Arrow – that’s the name of this ship. I had to magnify the shot to read the name painted at the front end of the ship. It belongs to a company named GearBulk.
All very interesting names!
I suppose looking at the ship in a way it does like an arrow piercing the waters and since it’s black why not call it Raven Arrow. And GearBulk? Must be because the ship looks like one that’s designed to carry bulky stuff.
Names then do serve a purpose – to reflect the purpose of the thing being named.
And names can also give something a sense of life and make it come alive. I like how a very talented and creative fellow AM3 p-blogger, Rabbit, names her pottery pieces that she makes – it gives them a sense of being alive! Check out her p-blog here.
So what does your name mean? Can you see the purpose behind it? :)
Sometimes in life it’s good to remember your name and the meaning behind it – it can give you a sense of purpose and direction in life.
Be alive! Live your name!

I like the way your crop accentuates the line of the ship's deck. It's good balance to have it off-center, too. Just very cool!

I like the golden lit sky in this. We sometimes go down to see the freighters pass by on Lake Erie and on up through the Detroit River channel. This is a great shot of the "Raven Arrow." The lighting and the calm water lend a tranquil feel.

Beautiful shot! And what an awful name, Gear Bulk, it sounds like vomiting with all due respect ;) I think every name given by somebody who loves the person animal or named, will give him/her/it a name in which this love is expressed. I believe your blogname means "pictures taken at the right occasion" (Kairos = Greek = the right moment, place, occasion). My new blogname Illuci means to mean a combination of "Illusion" and "In luce" (=in the light"). I must confess that I don't know the meaning of my first real name, I'm going to look it up, my second name means "son of the man of the people" (which I don't feel myself at all, I'm very on my own and individualistic, maybe that's why I like p-blogging). But it's good to consider from time to time! Nomen est omen, but also: What's in a name?
30 Sep 2007 9:48am
I looked up the meaning of my first name and it's contrary to my second name's meaning, namely: "ruler on his own" , so kind of dictator. I'm also not a dictator at all, so for me it holds "What's in a name".

Your S5 is doing a great shot, of course the person behind the lens is the most important part.
30 Sep 2007 12:25pm
Wow this is a beautiful shot! It really looks like an arrow streaming through the water. Great title.

Oh K!! You come up with the most interesting quandries. You just love to make us think outside the box. Really like your shot. Excellent (as usual). As to my name? The meaning of my name is beloved... I am blessed with that greatly.

Great shot. I like the golden tone and the way you cropped it. Well done.

WOW!!! Absolutely love this image, and such excellent words as always to accompany it, dear kairo!! Wonderfully inspiring and encouraging!! My parents named me after "Rebekah/Rebecca", wife of Isaac in the Bible. But hey, my huband's name is Jeff :) . They told me they chose the name more for the character of Rebecca (especially her caring initiative in Genesis 24 & willingness to leave her familiar surroundings in order to follow God’s will) rather than the Hebrew meaning. I found out from a bit of googling that the Hebrew meaning of the name is “to bind” or “knotted cord”. heh heh :) , must say it reminds me of LV’s image today! :) . My Chinese name is “bi yi” meaning “jade (for “precious”) propriety”....whoa, tough standard to follow, i must say! lol :) . there's another variant of “yi” i like very much, which we have included in Elise’s Chinese name. We have an entry about that (Elise’s name) on our blog if you’d like to read it here. :) Well, really hope and pray by God’s grace we human beings can live up to the good aspects of our names!! :) Thanks again dear friend and brother for this wonderful post! Much blessings to you and yours always too :)
