Here’s another peek at a teacher during the music festival but this time she is making notes while the students sang. Perhaps writing down her thoughts to be shared later?
Writing – what a gift to mankind to be able to pen our thoughts and permanently capture them so that we can revisit them again. From what is internal it becomes external. From fleetingness to permanence.
There is another medium with lets us do that – photograsphy. In a way, it is also a gift to capture our thoughts, memories and emotions to help us remember.
But let’s also be careful of what we choose to capture to remember and what we choose to remember of what has been captured. That is where we have to be mindful of our own perceptions.
Do we see the cup as half empty or half full or both but choosing to overcome the half empty space with the other half that’s filled (a more realistic view I think)?
May we rightly view what we write and capture.
By the way as suggested by Illuci, here are two Youtube clips of what you might get to hear during a song competition/festival. They are not students of mine or of the schools where I taught. But they do give an idea of what it was like. Too bad the clips aren’t showing the full songs but don’t you think Japanese students can really sing and sing well in four part harmony? I think so. Hearing them sing makes me miss my teaching days with them. Here’s clip 1 and clip 2.
