This shot shows a student with her hand wrapped up. It brings to mind the thought that when you are fully immersed in an activity, discomfort and pain becomes less of a distraction and you get by.

Some psychologists in the emerging field of positive psychology (which is more scientifically rigourous than pop psychology stuff like “positive mental attitude” popularised by Napoleon Hill or NLP stuff popularised by Anthony Robbins) call this deep focused concentration as flow (Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi) or mindfulness (Ellen Langer).

Cognitive behavioural therapists have been known to use such focusing on help clients refocus on something else to help them get out of their cyclical depressive or painful mental state of mind.

Sometimes in life when we are faced with a depressive and painful moments, it helps when we refocus and be really absorbed with something else.

So what are you focused on? What’s your flow? What are you mindful of these days?
